This music box belonged to the great-great-grandfather (maternal) of the owner, Benjamin Franklin Hardin (b. 1860s). He was a carpenter who built houses, and lived in Alcorn County, Mississippi. The instrument passed through the family.

poplar; brown paint; remnants of wire strings; string closest to player appears to be wound-string; 3/4" diameter alternating sound holes; tuners 5/8" diameter; numbers carved into fretboard; top nailed with small, round nails; fretboard edge is straight with very little slant; no scallops in fretboard
