Description
This instrument was strung by Henry Beckman with piano wire. It was found in a house that was built in 1895 on Chesum Creek, in western Lawrence County. A log house was at this location before the 1895 house was built, a homestead of the current owner's great-grandfather, one Gallaher. The owner remembers it from childhood, but no one knew its origin.

poplar top; pine back; back unfinished with small portion cut out; leather feet; fretboard scalloped with 5 scallops on each side; 5 sound holes on each side, alternating; top and sides decorated; 14 frets under 1 of 4 strings (piano wire, 20 gauge); 4 eye screw tuners (small: 5/8"); numbers on fretboard; mitred corners.
